New England Construction proudly partnered with LLB Architects, the Moses Brown School and SquashBusters to oversee the design and construction of a brand new athletic facility at the school’s Providence campus. In addition to 12 regulation squash courts the building features other spaces meant to enhance the academic and athletic development of the students at Moses Brown.
The design/build team was tasked with the challenge of working with two clients on a single project with specific expectations and needs of each client. SquashBusters and Moses Brown both presented strict programming requirements for both the school and squash courts under one cohesive design and budget. The team prepared a preliminary design and construction budget presentation for Moses Brown and SquashBusters incorporating their requested design elements. The original NEC construction budget was presented at $6.2MM including higher end finishes.
The design/build team along with the clients worked through an initial round of value engineering to lower construction costs while maintaining the overall aesthetic. Collectively, the team was able to locate savings upwards of $300,000 through their value engineering exercise.
