What You’ll Get Out of This Opportunity

The Project Accountant plays a key role in tracking and accurately reporting on the financial performance of assigned projects. This role serves as a liaison between the project teams and the Finance Dept. ensuring all accounting standard operating procedures are being followed on projects. In addition, the Project Accountant is responsible for the project billing process, which includes verifying project costs, contract terms, and the point person for project team management to ensure accurate and timely recording of all project revenue and costs. This position reports to the Controller.

What You’ll Do

The Project Accountant will be knowledgeable about all aspects of construction accounting and will be responsible for the following:

 

  1. Set up of projects in Sage/Timberline and Procore.
  2. Review and process the monthly owner requisitions.
  3. Review and process subcontractor requisitions.
  4. Ensure all subcontractors are complying with terms and conditions of the contract including, but not limited to insurance, billing procedures, etc.
  5. Supports project forecasting and processes budget updates in accordance with assigned projects.
  6. Process cost transfers.
  7. Work with the Controller to select invoices to be included in the weekly check run.
  8. Monitor and track the cash position of the project and communicate potential risks and profitability to the Project Manager, VP of Operations, and/or VP of Finance.
  9. Manage project financial closeout along with the project team. Ensure final contract amount and closeout documentation requirements have been met and agreed to by subcontractors prior to issuing final payments.
  10. Ability to work with subcontractors, clients, and vendors to resolve finance-related issues and answer questions on projects such as subcontractor questions, payment issues, etc.
  11. Work closely with Project Managers and Project Executives on all facets of project accounting and administration issues.
  12. Perform other related duties as assigned

What You’ll Need
  1. Basic understanding of construction accounting concepts, such as AIA requisitions, prime contracts, subcontracts and commitments, change orders, retainage, lien waivers and insurance.

  2. Demonstrated leadership, strong dedication to teamwork and integrity within professional environment.

  3. Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, with the ability to clearly communicate issues to all levels of management

  4. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize workload in order to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment

  5. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  6. Detail oriented and able meet deadlines.

  7. Highly motivated to continue to develop professional licenses, certifications, and expertise through formal training and on-the-job experience

  8. Customer focus required
  1. Ability to adapt to different personalities and management styles.

  2. Outstanding team player with good interpersonal skills.

  3. Experience with Procore and/or Timberline/Sage is a plus

  4. Must have strong proficiency with financial systems applications and MS Office, specifically Excel and Word

 

What You’re Bringing to the Table
  1. Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field
  2. 1-3 years of related experience.
  1. Must be able to perform all essential functions of the job.
